Punjab Minister reviewed the electricity arrangements for the paddy season

Uninterrupted Power Supply: Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people of the state for 24 hours during summer and 8 hours daily to farmers during this paddy season. He said that PSPCL is in a position to meet the demand of 14150 MW and if required it will be able to meet the demand of 15350 MW using 1200 MW transmission capacity.

Giving further information, the Power Minister said that the power import capacity (ATC limit) from outside Punjab has been increased to 8800 MW, which is likely to be increased to 9000 MW in a day or two. He said that about 6400 MW of generation within the state and 4800 MW of state share in central sector and BBMB plants and 2950 MW of short-term provision, i.e. 7750 MW from outside the state on short-term basis. With the arrangements, PSPCL is in a position to meet the power demand of 14150 MW.

He further informed that PSPCL will be able to meet the demand of 15350 MW by utilizing 1200 MW transmission capacity. He said that the remaining transmission capacity would be met by purchasing power from the open market through swaps based on real-time demand and availability gap, if required.

Elaborating on infrastructure renovation works to ensure uninterrupted power supply after paddy season 2022, Power Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that construction of 11 new 66 KV grid substations, addition of 52 new power transformers at existing 66 KV grid substations, laying of 378 km long 66 KV transmission lines, 352 new 11 KV feeders, 27,047 new distribution Installation of transformers, deloading of 1367 feeders of 11 KV and addition of 43,628 distribution transformers for agriculture under DVS scheme. He said that the DT loss rate has also been controlled at 4.56 percent.

Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO further said that the recent heavy storms in various areas of Punjab have caused heavy damage to the power transmission and distribution infrastructure of the state. He said that around 8150 poles, 1839 transformers and around 73 km of conductors have been damaged due to the storm, with a total financial loss of around Rs 16.5 crore. He said that PSPCL was able to restore power supply in the storm-affected areas in the shortest possible time due to continuous monitoring, systematic patrolling of feeders and cleaning of lines.

Meanwhile, the Power Minister chaired a review meeting to review the power supply arrangements for the paddy season. He P.S.P.C.L. Directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during summer season. During the meeting PSPCL and P.S.T.C.L. The senior officials informed the power minister that they are fully prepared to meet the increasing demand of electricity this summer.

He said that apart from arranging mobile transformers at urban centres, material stores at division level and grid sub stations and deploying adequate human resources to deal with complaints, 104 nodal centers at division level, control rooms and complaints in 21 circles. Besides setting up 5 zones, a control room has been established at the head office for redressal of complaints.

PSPCL officials said that the stock position and supply of transformers, cables/PVC, conductors, poles and other accessories during the paddy season is sufficient to meet the distribution requirements. He further informed that comprehensive maintenance of power distribution system including distribution transformers and power lines has been ensured. He said that as a result of this prevention and maintenance efforts, there was no incident of crop fire due to electrical sparks in Punjab this year.

In this meeting Principal Secretary Electricity Tejveer Singh, CMD PSPCL Baldev Singh Saran, Director Distribution PSPCL DPS Grewal, Director Generation PSC. PCL Paramjit Singh, and Director Technical PSTCL Vardeep Singh Mander were prominently present.
