The new Advocate General (AG) of Punjab, Advocate Gurminder Singh Ghari, assumed his post on Thursday evening. Meanwhile, he said that his priority would be to present the Punjab government’s side strongly in every case.

He was promoted to Senior Advocate in 2014. He is an Advocate in Haryana Additional District and Sessions Judge promotion case. They are also suing the court on behalf of the judges in this case. CM Bhagwant Mann gave information on social media about making Advocate Gurminder Singh the new Advocate General.
An important meeting of the Punjab Cabinet was called today….in which the new AG was approved by the cabinet…the name of Gurminder Singh as the new AG was approved by the cabinet…
Also, the issue of SYL was discussed in the meeting… not even a drop of extra water to any other state at any cost. pic.twitter.com/9XJbfr1qf1— Bhagwant Mann (@BhagwantMann) October 5, 2023
Earlier, advocate Vinod Ghai submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister citing personal reasons. Which was approved in the cabinet meeting held on Thursday. After which the government also informed Advocate Gary to appoint a new AG.
Recently, the Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab had to withdraw its decision to dissolve panchayats. When the matter went to the High Court, the government had to come on the backfoot. Apart from this, the government was not satisfied with AG Vinod Ghai in many other cases as well.
