The CBI court has delivered its verdict in the 1992 fake police encounter case. In which three former policemen of Amritsar, Inspector Dharam Singh, ASI Surinder Singh and Gurdev Singh have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

It should be said that the court has also imposed a fine of 2 lakh rupees on these three policemen. It is to be mentioned that in the year 1992 three youths Lakhwinder Singh, Harjit Singh and Jaspinder Singh were faked by the policemen. Five of the nine accused in this case have died, one accused is still absconding.

Picked up Harjit Singh in April 1992

The father of deceased Harjit Singh had filed a writ in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in this case. At that time, Harjit Singh’s father did not know that the police had killed his son.

The father had alleged that his son Harjit Singh was picked up by the police on April 29, 1992 from Thatthiyan bus stand near Sathiyala in Amritsar and kept in the Mal Mandi interrogation centre. It may be mentioned that after 14 days the police killed Harjit Singh along with two other youths Lakhwinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh in a fake encounter.

The bodies were not handed over to the family members

It is to be mentioned here that a police party led by SI Dharam Singh of the then SHO PS Lopoke formed a police encounter. After this encounter, Inna’s dead body was also not handed over to the family. The police cremated the bodies of the three after declaring them unclaimed.
