Stating that ensuring the healthy health of women and children is the main priority of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh announced to provide all kinds of technical facilities at government health institutions to reduce maternal mortality rate (MMR).
At present the maternal mortality rate in Punjab is recorded at 105 per one lakh live births as against the national average (97).
He M.M.R. Urged all medical officers to come forward and adopt better practices to help the state achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of 70. He said that besides honoring doctors who have shown better performance in the state, they will also be given priority in promotion.

He said that we will provide every technical facility, be it Non-Pneumatic Anti Shock Garment (NASG) or Uterine Balloon Tamponade (UBT) in government hospitals to reduce maternal mortality related to Post-Partum Haemorrhage (PPH) in the state. .
Before this, P.S.C.S.T. Executive Director Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora explained how two low-cost facilities at all delivery points in two districts – Bathinda and Faridkot have been set up by NASG. And the introduction of UBT saved the lives of 73 mothers affected by severe PPH. He appealed to the Health Minister to start these facilities in other districts of Punjab as well.
Project leaders of AIIMS Bathinda and PSCST Dr. Lajya Devi Goyal and Dr. Dapinder Kaur Bakshi said that the objectives of the project include making UBTS and NASGs facilities available at various delivery points and comprehensive training of health care professionals to prevent post-partum haemorrhage in mothers. (PPH) will help prevent deaths.
Director Health Services Dr. Adarshpal Kaur urged medical professionals to identify PPH and other dangerous conditions early and refer such patients in time. He also emphasized on making referral protocol for all health institutions.
State Program Officer Dr. Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, Assistant Director of Health and Family Welfare Department, Punjab. Vineet Nagpal and various health care professionals including gynecologists, nurses and technicians from all 23 districts of Punjab participated in the state workshop.
