The farmers of Punjab and Haryana, who are preparing to stage a dharna in Chandigarh on August 22 for compensation of bad crops and other demands, have started making loud noise. In both the states, since Monday morning, different police teams have started the siege and house-to-house arrest of farmers’ leaders.

Farmer leaders are being caught more in Punjab. Here in Gurdaspur, some farmer leaders were taken into custody at 5 am. Sarwan Singh Pandher, President of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Surjit Singh Behramke and other farmers leaders were also detained in Tarn Taran. Several other leaders and office-bearers of farmers’ unions were detained in their homes and kept outside under police guard.

On the other hand, farmers’ organizations have started protesting against this bullying by the police. Farmers jammed the toll plaza in Punjab’s Tarn Taran.

Farmer leader Sanjeev Alampur has been detained by the police in Kurukshetra. Kisan leader Sanjeev Alampur, releasing a video, said to surround Chandigarh to get compensation to the workers-farmers and traders of the flood-affected areas.

Farmer leader Sanjiv Alampur said that the administration had a meeting with the Governor BL Purohit yesterday but no relief could be found except for the assurance from the Governor. The administration said talks today, but farmers’ leaders started being detained in Punjab since morning. The meeting was held at 11 am by the Ambala district administration, but even before that, farmer leaders have started to be detained in Haryana as well.

Farmer leader Pandher announced the opening of the front

Performances are not permitted in the parade ground
Chandigarh Police-Administration is trying to avert the dharna by talking to the farmers from August 20. The Chandigarh administration was giving permission to the farmers to hold a dharna in the rally ground located in Sector-25, but the farmers demanded that the place for the dharna should be given in the parade ground. Due to lack of agreement on this, the farmers had to reach the border of Chandigarh today.
