Giving this information, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Thursday that the arrested accused has been identified as Shinder Singh, resident of Bute village, Chhannan Mehtpur, Jalandhar. The accused is a drug trafficker and was earlier facing two criminal cases under the NDPS Act.

The DGP said that the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar had received a tip-off that the accused Shinder Singh and his accomplices had recently smuggled a large consignment of heroin into Indian territory through the river route of Ferozepur region by Pakistan-based smugglers and agencies. received and they (Shinder and others) are present around Amritsar to deliver the said consignment to the buyer(s).

Acting immediately, SSOC Amritsar Special Police Team launched an operation and cordoned off the area in a systematic manner and succeeded in arresting the accused Shinder Singh, he said.

Sharing more information about the preliminary investigation, AIG SSOC Sukhminder Singh Mann said that it has come to light that a few days ago in Ferozepur sector, Pakistan-based smugglers used the breach along the river bank to smuggle drugs through the river. Consignment smuggled.

He said that further investigations are underway to expose the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers and their buyers. He said that by arresting the remaining members of this group, efforts are being made to investigate all the previous links related to the said persons to bring the investigation to a logical conclusion.

In this regard, a case number 23 dated 03.08.2023 under section 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at SSOC Amritsar police station and soon the accused will be produced in the court and remanded to police custody.
