In Ludhiana, the Vigilance Bureau has arrested ASI Sukhdev Singh, posted at Thana Samthar, from Barnala in a case of bribery. Gurmeet Singh was hiding there to avoid arrest. A case was registered against the accused in Thana Sadar on 16 June 2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
SSP Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu said that the complainant has alleged that ASI Gurmeet Singh had taken a bribe of Rs 1500 to release his seized auto. Even before this, he has taken a bribe of 2500 rupees.
The complainant also presented a video of the ASI taking a bribe of Rs 1500 before the vigilance. After absconding, ASI Gurmeet filed an anticipatory bail petition before the Additional Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, which was rejected. The SSP said that a team of Vigilance Ludhiana range on Saturday from Gagewal village in Barnala district. ASI Gurmeet Singh has been arrested. He will be produced in the court on Monday and remanded.
