On Sunday, MPs clashed in the Maldivian Parliament. The ruling party and the opposition were seen kicking and punching each other. Clashes broke out between the ruling coalition People's National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and MPs from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Due to this, the special session called by President Muhammed Muizu to seek parliamentary approval for Cabinet Ministers was significantly disrupted.

A video posted by Adhadhu, a local Maldivian online news outlet on social site X, shows the commotion in Parliament. In the viral video clip, some of the members are also seen dragging each other off the stage.

The PNC and PPM issued a statement saying that the MDP's move to block the approval of the four members amounted to obstructing the delivery of services to the people. He also demanded the resignation of the Speaker.

Ahadhu reported that Muizu's chief adviser and PNC president Abdul Rahim Abdullah defended the right of ministers to be reappointed even without approval, saying denying their approval was an “irresponsible” move.
