Work continues on 206 public building projects by the Public Works Department

Punjab Public Works and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO informed here today that the Public Works Department (PWD) is working on 206 government building projects worth Rs 2280 crore during the current financial year and 53 of these projects have been completed by October 2023.

Giving the details of these projects, the Minister of Public Works said that in these 206 projects, these 206 projects include the administration, IKGPTU, higher education, school education, tourism and cultural affairs, medical education and research, goods, sports. , including construction of government buildings of various departments including transport and civil aviation etc. He said that during the financial year 2023-2024, the target is to spend 150 crore rupees on deposit and judicial works and so far 43.60 crore rupees have been spent on these works.

The Public Works Minister said that the Public Works Department has initiated a total of 196 projects costing Rs 2700 crore for the construction of government buildings of various departments in the financial year 2022-23, of which 45 projects have been completed by March 2023, the rest Remaining projects are under progress.

He said that apart from this, the department has upgraded 255 primary health centers to Aam Aadmi clinics in the financial year 2022-23. The Cabinet Minister said that out of the target of 17 schools set by the Department under Phase-1 to realize the determination of the Punjab Government to improve school education, the work of 15 schools is nearing completion, and the work of 25 schools under Phase-3. has been taken in hand.

The Public Works Minister said that fair and transparent bidding system is being adopted by the department at the time of allotment of all development works and the officials of the Public Works Department have also been instructed to complete all the projects in a timely manner by following the norms and standards. Completion should be ensured at more affordable cost.
