Sickle cell anemia is a disease associated with anemia. In this genetic disorder, blood cells either break or change their size and shape, which blocks the blood vessels. In sickle cell anemia, red blood cells also die and there is a lack of blood in the body. Due to genetic disease, the production of blood in the body also stops. At the same time, due to lack of blood in the body, this disease also causes damage to many important organs. These include kidney, spleen, and liver.

Whenever someone gets sickle cell anemia, many symptoms appear in it. Like the patient has pain in bones and muscles all the time. The size of the spleen increases. Painful swelling occurs in the body parts, especially in the hands and feet. Blood does not form. Due to heavy loss of blood again and again, blood has to be given again and again.

Is the disease incurable?

A complete diagnosis of sickle cell anemia is not possible. However, this disease can be detected through blood tests. The symptoms of this disease can be controlled to a great extent with the help of medicines like folic acid. Stem cell or bone marrow transplant is a solution for this.

Death happens suddenly?

The causes of death in sickle cell anemia are infections, recurrent episodes of pain, acute chest syndrome, and stroke. Death of a person suffering from this disease can happen suddenly.

Let us tell you that according to the Family Health Survey, between 2015 and 2016, 58.4% children and 53% women were victims of this disease. For the last 6 decades, this disease is flourishing in India. Tribal population is also suffering from this disease.
