Chandigarh : The rains have stopped in Punjab but the flood crisis continues due to overflowing rivers. Meanwhile, the news of the death of two people by drowning in the water has come to light.

Retired Sub-Inspector of Punjab Police dies

In the first case, Bhagwan Das, a resident of village Jogewal of Tehsil Patar of Patiala district, died today due to being swept away by the water of Ghaggar river. According to information, the deceased has been identified as Bhagwan Das, who was a retired sub-inspector of the Punjab Police. The body of the deceased has been found from village Gulah. The villagers pulled the body out of the water and informed the Shutrana police.

The police have sent the body to the Samana Civil Hospital for post-mortem and started the proper process. Fateh Singh, president of Krantikari Kisan Union Jogewal unit, said that there was Bhagwan Das’ chicken house near Batti Dara passing under Bhakra canal, which was washed away in the flood yesterday. Bhagwan Das was on his way to his fields yesterday morning, when he was swept away by the strong current and his body was found several hours later.

On the other hand, another such case also belongs to Patial district, here it has come to light from village Khatauli of Devigarh, where a young man died due to drowning while filling a gap in the embankment of Tangri river.

The deceased has been identified as Manjit Singh (35), a resident of Khatauli village. Manjit was trying to repair the breach along with other people after a breach in the embankment of the Tangri river, when suddenly he was swept away by the strong flow of water and died due to drowning.

The people present at the spot first brought Manjit Singh to Primary Health Center Dudhansadha, where he was rushed to Rajindra Hospital Patiala due to his serious condition, but on reaching Patiala the doctors declared him dead. On this occasion, Constituency MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra shared his grief with the victim’s family and promised to provide financial help.
