Chandigarh : Small farmers have to suffer from all sides in agriculture. If we talk about electricity subsidy for motors, then only wealthy farmers are taking the benefit of it. While the small farmers who are deprived of motor connections are having to grow their crops by burning expensive diesel.

In Punjab, on the one hand, farmers with farm motors are getting an annual electricity subsidy of Rs 53,984 per connection on an average, while on the other hand, farmers without motor connections are deprived of the subsidy. These farmers are feeling cheated due to poor distribution of electricity subsidy.

According to the report of Punjabi Tribune, many districts are getting gaffes in electricity subsidy given to many farmers on motors, while others are getting less subsidy on average. Barnala district tops in this case, where farmers get an average electricity subsidy of Rs 89,556 per connection annually. On the other hand, the farmers of Muktsar are lagging behind, receiving an average annual electricity subsidy of Rs 21,324 per connection.

The average subsidy also has a big gap district wise

According to the details, Barnala has 47,068 motor connections and an average electricity subsidy of Rs 89,556 per connection is being received annually. You will be surprised to know that this subsidy is the highest in Punjab. At the second number, Sangrur has a total of 1,14,374 motor connections and an average annual electricity subsidy of Rs 84,428 per connection. Patiala district at number 3 has 89,430 motor connections and an average yearly subsidy of Rs 78,470 is being given per connection.

There are 72,535 motor connections in District Sri Muktsar Sahib, which are getting subsidy of Rs.21,324 per connection annually and similarly, district Gurdaspur is getting subsidy of Rs.29,183 and district Amritsar is getting subsidy of Rs.40,415.

Demand to give subsidy to every farmer

It is being demanded by the farmers that every farmer should get the benefit of subsidy on agricultural motors like MSP on crops. It is also being told that this big gap can be removed in the new agricultural policy. In this policy, this subsidy can come directly into the farmers’ accounts.

1,14,905 crore received subsidy

Assuming a motor connection behind seven acres in the state, it is clear that a farmer is getting an electricity subsidy of Rs 7685 annually. At present, the tariff for farm motor power is Rs 5.66 per unit. In the last year 2022-23, a total of Rs 8284 crore has been sanctioned as electricity subsidy for the agriculture sector. It may be mentioned that since 1997, since 1997, the state government has given electricity subsidy of Rs. 1,14,905 crore to the farmers.
