Sports Minister Meet Hare strongly condemned the exclusion of Mohali from the list of cities to host Cricket World Cup-2023. He said that excluding Mohali from hosting World Cup matches is open discrimination with Punjab. The sports minister said for the first time that Punjab’s exclusion from the World Cup host list was motivated by political reasons. The state government led by Bhagwant Mann will take up the issue of this discrimination before the BCCI.

Minister Meet Hare said that the exclusion of World Cup matches is open discrimination against Punjab as it is the first time after the construction of PCA Stadium Mohali that the World Cup is being held in India and yet no match is being held in Mohali.

He said that in 1996 and 2011 the World Cup semi-finals were played at Mohali but this time not a single league match was allotted to Punjab. Apart from the preliminary and final matches, Ahmedabad also gets to host the India-Pakistan match.

PCA Stadium Mohali is not only one of the top five stadiums in India but also ranks among the top stadiums in the world, said Meet Hare. Mohali has always been the first choice of cricket fans. Discrimination against Punjab will not be tolerated at any cost. He said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann BCCI. will raise the issue of this discrimination and open injustice.

The sports minister added that Mohali has an international airport and the city also has good infrastructure and adequate hotels for the teams to stay. Holding the match at Mohali will give a big boost to sports tourism with the influx of sports-loving tourists from home and abroad, which will boost the state’s economy.
