Thane Crime | Thane: FIR lodged against husband for abetting married woman to commit suicide

Thane (Maharashtra), Navi Mumbai Police has registered a case against a Pune-based man for allegedly abetting the suicide of a married woman in Thane, Maharashtra. An official provided this information on Wednesday. The accused and the woman were neighbors in Pune’s Hingewadi area.

An officer from Rabale police station said that in May 2019, the woman was married to another person. She lived in Navi Mumbai with her husband and they often had quarrels over domestic issues. On February 22 this year, the woman had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her home in Navi Mumbai.

On April 9, the woman’s father came to know from the Rabale police that her mobile phone found near the body had some messages and phone calls made by the accused to the woman between January and February. According to the complaint lodged by the woman’s father, in the message, the accused man had abused the woman and she committed suicide after being fed up of his continuous harassment.

The woman’s father also told the police that the accused used to torture the victim when she lived in Pune and was reprimanded by her family for the same, the officer said. A case has been registered against the accused under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He said that no arrest has been made in the case so far.
