Jakhar, who is considered close to Amit Shah

The discussion of giving relief to Ashwini Sharma started after Amit Shah’s visit to Gurdaspur. Jakhar is considered to be very close to the Union Home Minister. Jakhar can also be BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Gurdaspur. The main reason for making the party president is that he is the common face of the Hindu and Jat communities.

Most of the Chief Ministers of Punjab are from Malwa

BJP has strong faces in Malwa. Captain Amarinder Singh, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Arvind Khanna, Sunil Jakhar, Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Manpreet Singh Badal are all from Malwa. The BJP became very weak in Malwa after breaking away from the Akali Dal. BJP was not given priority in the Malwa region even in the assembly elections.

History is also a witness that most of the Chief Ministers of Punjab have been from Malwa. Captain Amarinder Singh twice, Parkash Singh Badal five times, Bibi Rajinder Kaur Bhatal, Harcharan Singh Brar, Charanjit Singh Channi have contested elections from Malwa. So the key to power is in Malwa’s hands. Jakhar is from Malwa and his nephew Sandeep Jakhar is a Congress MLA. The BJP has planned to hoist its flag in Malwa, Punjab by making Jakhar the president.
