Naib Subedar Ramesh Lal, who died in an accident in Leh-Ladakh, was cremated today. His last rites were performed at village Sirsari in Faridkot district of Punjab. He was given a final farewell with state honours. Shaheed Ramesh was enlightened by his son.
On the occasion of the funeral, Shaheed Ramesh’s wife Geeta, both children, in-laws and relatives were present. At the same time, the entire village gathered at the crematorium to pay their last respects. Meanwhile, people chanted the slogans of Shaheed Jawan Ammar along with the praise of Bharat Mata.
Seeing her husband’s dead body, the wife fainted
Army soldiers reached the village in a truck full of flowers late on Saturday evening with the dead body of the martyr. Apart from his relatives, the people of the village and district also came to pay their last respects. As soon as the dead body of the martyr came inside the house, his wife Geeta Devi fainted. There was an outcry among the family members.
Martyr Naib Subedar Ramesh Lal joined the Indian Army 24 years ago. His father and mother have already passed away. They got married in Fatehabad, Haryana. He was married 15 years ago to Geeta Devi, daughter of Sher Singh of Sundernagar, Fatehabad. Currently, Ramesh Lal was living in Rishikesh with his family and father-in-law. Both the children of Shaheed study in Army Public School.
Let us tell you that on August 19, at a place called Kiari in Nauma Tehsil, 6 km away from Leh, an army truck suddenly fell into a ditch, in which 10 army personnel were on board. 8 of them died on the spot. 2 were taken to Leh Hospital, one of whom also died. A youth is under treatment in critical condition. The army truck was accompanied by an ambulance and USV. A total of 34 soldiers were on board in all these vehicles. The accident took place around 6:30 in the evening.
