Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the exclusion of two Sikh candidate lawyers from the recommendations of the Supreme Court during the appointment of judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the Government of India. Terming it as discrimination against the Sikhs, the Shiromani Committee President said that the central government should immediately appoint the two Sikh judges.
In the issued statement, he said that the Supreme Court’s strong comment on this matter puts the Central Government in the dock. Advocate Dhami questioned the central government to clarify under which policy senior Sikh lawyers have been excluded, while the remaining three out of five have been appointed.
Shiromani Committee President said that Sikhs have always contributed to the country by being pioneers, but there are often reports of suppression of their rights. Already, Sikhs are in the minority in the country and if discriminatory attitude towards them becomes the policy of the government, then there can be no greater injustice than this.
He also praised the Supreme Court for questioning the central government for not appointing two Sikh lawyers as judges. He said that the central government should never forget that the appointment of Sikh judges especially in the Punjab and Haryana High Court should be given priority because the number of Sikhs in these two states is more than the rest of the country.
If Sikh judges are working in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the issues of this region and the people will be simplified in a good way. He appealed to the central government to strictly implement the recommendations of the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of judges. Harmeet Singh Grewal and S. Dipinder Singh Nalwa should be appointed.
