About 11 percent of the adult population in the country has this problem. AIIMS has generated this data through 6 researches in the last two decades. Research funding reported that cases of obstructive sleep apnea are more common in males. Due to this I do not sleep well at night. This is also affecting the daily functioning. OCA also increases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. The research is published in the Journal of Sleep Medicine.

According to Dr. Ananth Mohan, professor of the Department of Pulmonology at AIIMS New Delhi, who conducted the research, the research revealed that 10 crore people in India have this sleeping disorder. About 50 million of these people have severe symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. Obesity is also increasing in men and women due to this disease.

In severe cases, there is a risk of worsening of the condition due to OSA. OSA also causes late night snoring problems, due to which sleep is not complete. Due to this, people feel sleepy during the day. Sleep also affects the performance of working people. In many cases this disease also affects the mental health of the person. There is also a risk of stroke, high blood pressure and metabolic disease. In such a situation, there is a need to increase awareness about this disease.

Dr. Mohan explains that older people are more at risk of obstructive sleep apnea. Other parts of the body are also affected due to lack of sleep. Apart from the elderly, people suffering from obesity are also more prone to this disease.
