The Punjab government has taken a major action in the stipend scam under the Corruption Free Punjab campaign. The Hon’ble government has dismissed 6 officials after they were found involved in the scam investigation.

6 officials found guilty in the investigation into the Rs 39 crore post matric scholarship scam for scheduled castes have been dismissed. Out of these, four officers belong to the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities and two to the Finance Department.

The sacked officials include Parminder Singh Gill Deputy Director; Charanjit Singh Deputy Controller; Mukesh Bhatia Section Officer, Rajinder Chopra Superintendent and Rakesh Arora and Baldev Singh (both Senior Assistants) are included. Among them, Charanjit and Rakesh have retired. The order regarding their dismissal has been issued by the Minister of the concerned department, Dr. Baljit Kaur.

It is worth mentioning that the stipend scam was exposed during the Congress government of Captain Amarinder Singh. At that time the Department of Social Justice and Minorities was with Sadhu Singh Dharamsot. The Bhagwant Mann government also investigated the matter strictly and found that some private organizations were benefited by ignoring the instructions of the Chief Minister at that time. 16.91 crores were released under financial benefit to these 9 institutions.
