Punjab police arrested a person with drugs and weapons

Dealing a major blow to the cross-border drug trafficking network during the war against drugs on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Police arrested the main accused after recovering 2 kg of ice drug (methamphetamine) from Pakistan-based smugglers. A drug and arms smuggling racket being run across the border has been busted.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared this information here today and said that the arrested smuggler has been identified as Simranjit Singh alias Simar Maan resident of village Gagarmal Amritsar. Apart from seizing the consignment of ice drug, police teams also recovered a sophisticated .30 bore Chinese pistol and five live cartridges from his possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested accused was in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers Pathan and Amer who were supplying him with ice drugs and arms across the border through drones.

He said that the arrested accused used to supply ice drugs across the state, while the investigation is on to establish information about his past and future relationships.

Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, acting on credible information about an attempt by Pakistan-based smugglers to bring in huge consignments of ice drugs and arms in the state, DCP Harpreet Mander, ADCP CIA under the supervision of City-3 Abhimanyu Rana and ACP West Kamaljit Aulakh. Police teams from Staff-1 conducted extensive operation in Cheharta area.

He said that the police teams caught the accused Simar Maan when he was waiting for someone to deliver the consignment. CP Bhullar said that further investigation is being done to expose the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers and their buyers. He said that efforts are being made to find out the total amount of narcotics obtained by the arrested accused so far.

The case in this regard is NDPS. Under section 21 and 22 of the Act and section 25 of the Arms Act, an FIR was filed at Cheharta Police Station of Amritsar Commissionerate. No. 2 has been recorded on 3.1.2024. It may be mentioned that the commercial quantity of heroin is 250 grams, while the commercial quantity of ice drug is 50 grams.
