This ranking is being given from the year 2018. During this ranking, different matters are focussed every year. In the year 2022, the focus was on reducing transfat. The Food Safety Index is divided into major categories like states, districts, union territories etc.
Union Territory Index
Among the Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir has got the first place. While Delhi has got the second place and Chandigarh the third place. Along with this, in the category of big states, Kerala has got the first place, Punjab is the second and Tamil Nadu has got the third place. On the other hand, in terms of food security among smaller states, Goa has been ranked first, Manipur second and Sikkim third.
Who got what in the districts
If we talk about the districts, then the city of Tamil Nadu is at the first number. Along with this, Gwalior, famous for laddu and samosa kachori, has got the second position in terms of food security. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, famous for Thadai and Kachori-Sabzi, has been placed at the fourth position and Lucknow at the sixth position. Along with this, three districts including Malda of West Bengal have also been included in this ranking.
On what criteria is the ranking done?
States are ranked based on five key criteria. These criteria are set on the basis of human resources, implementation of food safety regulations, training, consumer rights and improvement over the previous year.
Food Street Launch
Also on this occasion Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that Food Street is coming to create a new global identity of taste and health. For this, the seller will also be given an identity card and registration number along with training. For this, they will be instructed to use clean water, use dustbins and keep food and drink items covered. Along with this, they will also be given a certificate by the government, which will motivate them.
