Police Sub-Inspector Jagjit Singh (No: 462/Khanna) posted at Police Station Malaud, District Khanna has been arrested today on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs.
Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau said that the said policeman has been arrested on the complaint of Hardeep Singh, resident of village Sheikhan, Tehsil Payal.
He further stated that the said complainant had filed a complaint at the Vigilance Bureau office, Ludhiana that on September 28, 2023, his brother Jagtar Singh on his motorcycle (registration number PB-10-HY-4663) was taking medicine from the de-addiction center at Civil Hospital Malud. went to get
Later in the afternoon, he came to know that a case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) was registered against his brother Jagtar Singh at Malaud police station. After this, the complainant went to the police station with his villager Paramjit Singh and the said SI. met, who told them that NDPS against Jagtar Singh. FIR on 28 September 2023 under section 22 of the Act. 101 has been recorded.
The complainant further alleged that SI Jagjit Singh also threatened to implicate him in this case and has already taken Rs 15,000 as bribe from him.
SI Jagjit Singh told them that the motorcycle was not yet mentioned in the case and demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe to not include this motorcycle in the case. Complainant Hardeep Singh decided to approach Vigilance Bureau Range Office Ludhiana thinking not to pay bribe.
The spokesperson further said that after preliminary inquiry, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap and SI. Jagjit Singh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in the presence of two government witnesses.
In this regard, a case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on FIR 25 dated 4 October 2023 against the said policeman at Police Station Vigilance Range Ludhiana. The arrested accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and the further proceedings of the case are going on.
