Manish Sisodia denied bail, court extends CBI custody for two days

CBI custody extended till March 6

A court here has extended the CBI custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, arrested in a corruption case related to excise policy, till March 6. Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought Sisodia’s custody for three more days. However, the court extended the CBI custody of Sisodia for two days only.

Sisodia’s lawyer opposes CBI’s plea

Sisodia’s lawyer opposed the CBI’s plea. The lawyer said that- the agency’s inability to complete the investigation cannot be the basis of detention and they cannot be asked to plead guilty. Special Justice M.K. Sisodia, who was produced before Nagpal, said that non-cooperation cannot be a ground for detention and opposed the CBI’s plea seeking custody. Tight security arrangements have been made inside and outside the Rouse Avenue court complex.

Supporters protest outside the court premises

Supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a sit-in outside the court premises and raised slogans. Sisodia was sent to CBI custody for five days last Monday. Significantly, the CBI arrested Sisodia on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the preparation and implementation of the Excise Policy for the year 2021-22. (with language input)
