The word “mother” is a whole world in itself. A mother without any selfishness becomes a teacher, friend and guide of children when needed. If you’re active on social media, you’ll often come across a page called Mycocktail_life while scrolling through Instagram. Kamna Gautam, a resident of Hyderabad handles this page. Living in the roles of a mother, wife, nutritionist and responsible citizen, through this page, Kamna creates awareness from child care to environmental pollution and sustainability. The result of his continuous creativity, activism and hard work is that today 46.3k people are following him on Instagram.

starting with the basics

Kamna started her Instagram page 7 years ago. She says, “Initially I didn’t know anything about Instagram. Knew only basic things, like followers, hashtags.. following etc. I had absolutely no idea about engagement, collaboration, algorithms. Initially it was very difficult for me to setup Instagram. Then I researched it and slowly gathered all the information related to Instagram. I believe that if you have the will to learn, then nothing is too difficult for you.”

“I chose Instagram to put myself and my thoughts in front of the world. Similarly, you can express yourself through any medium. Now whether it is social media or any other platform. It completely depends on you where and how you can present yourself with confidence.

The experience of becoming a mother was very complicated

Talking about her social media journey, Kamna Gautam says, “I gave birth to my first child before I started Instagram Pet and I had a rough experience of childbirth. I gave birth to my child in a government hospital and faced a lot of problems there. However, I am not pointing fingers at the health system of our country. But during this time I had become very demotivated regarding my body. After the birth of the first child, I had thought that now I will not be able to give birth to another child.

Soon after the birth of the first child, Kamna’s husband’s job was shifted to Hyderabad and she had to move there. She told that “Hyderabad was a new city for me about which I did not know much. I got pregnant for the second time and this time I didn’t want to take any risk.

For me, the experience of becoming a mother for the second time and giving birth to a child was very motivating and empowering. Confidence came inside me and I felt that my body is also capable of giving birth to a child.

Baby bump of second pregnancy flaunted with first child

During pregnancy, Kamna decided that she would share her journey on Instagram. He said that it is necessary to reach the necessary information to the woman becoming a mother for the first time and other pregnant women. I have realized from my own experience that support and the right information can make pregnancy a lot easier.”

“Until a few years ago, like today, it was not common to share naked pictures of your belly during pregnancy. Because some such concepts of people have been going on for years that pregnancy is visible and they should keep their stomach covered with a scarf.

“But I didn’t want to keep myself tied to these things. So I did a lot of photo shoots during my pregnancy and posted them on my Instagram. Also I used to post many other things. Such as things related to pregnancy nutrition, pregnancy care tips and how to take care of children. I used to share pictures of my baby bump with my first child in my arms. To tell how you can handle the next pregnancy while taking care of your first child.

Weakness was not allowed to negative comments and trolls

I also shared the pictures at the time of delivery. Also used to share pictures while breastfeeding. During that time I was trolled many times. Negative comments, messages and sometimes men sent me nude photos of themselves. People called me an attention seeker because I used to share my breastfeeding pictures. But that didn’t mean at all that I wanted your attention. However, I have never let this become my weakness. Ignoring the negative things, I kept focusing on the positive things myself.

“Many people liked it very much. Started following me, not only that many international breastfeeding community reposted my posts. My postpartum pictures also went viral. People started knowing me by my name.

Breastfeeding is not a taboo

Nowadays women do jobs. It is not possible for them to sit at home. Getting out, moving around is a part of regular life. In such a situation, the breastfeeding mother has to face a lot of problems. According to Kamna, the reason for the declining trend towards breastfeeding is due to social perceptions. Whenever women are out or with someone, they feel hesitant to breast feed the child.

If the baby is hungry and crying, the first thing they need to do is find a place where they can breastfeed their baby. Because we have never made them so comfortable that they can easily feed their child anywhere. In such a situation, it is very important to end this taboo first to promote breastfeeding.

‘Sustainability’ means a better life and happiness

If you are aware of Kamna’s Instagram page, then you would know how Kamna is spreading awareness towards sustainability. Talking about this, Kamna says, “Every parent wants to give a better life to their child. It first starts with adopting a sustainability lifestyle. All our resources are limited, if we use them properly then only our next generation will be able to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.”

Sustainability can start with the smallest things. However, you have to face your family members before the society. Similarly, Kamna also slowly first made her husband and other family members aware about sustainability.

She says, “Initially I started dumping plastic materials from my house. But later I realized that sustainability is not limited to this only. However, starting sustainability was not easy for me either. Convincing my family for this is a difficult task.”

Maintaining a sustainable lifestyle is possible even with children

According to Kamna, children do not understand sustainability at a young age, as they see their home as well as others. They have to gradually prepare for it. Kamna tells that balloons are not allowed in their house, but seeing balloons in other children’s birthday parties, Kamna’s children also demand to play with balloons. In such a situation, it is a bit difficult to deal with these situations, but if they are explained then they understand.

Sometimes there are parties in their society. Where balloons are used and later those balloons are kept on the side. In such a situation, their children bring those balloons home and play with them. Then Kamna doesn’t say anything to him because he is reusing it.

Now know how you can follow sustainability

Giving some examples from her life, Kamna said that whenever she goes out to eat street food, she takes her utensils with her. Because most street food is available in plastic packets. However, it is not easy. But gradually you get used to it. Similarly, instead of buying plastic bottles, carry your own bottle. Apart from this, plates made of biodegradable material should also be carried. Always carry your carry bag while going out to get things. Always keep a carry bag in your purse and car in case you forget.

“Wherever I travel, I leave nothing but my footprints,” says Kamna.
