The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) was suspended by the Sports Ministry. Sanjay Singh won the post of president in the elections held for various posts in WFI. After this, some legendary wrestlers including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat described Sanjay as close to former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Brij Bhushan has been accused of sexual harassment and the wrestlers protested over the chairmanship of his close associate Sanjay Singh.
While Sakshi retired from wrestling after the WFI election results, Bajrang returned the Padma Shri. After this, the Sports Ministry took action and suspended the WFI. Now a new ad-hoc committee has been formed to oversee wrestling and related matters. Even before the WFI elections, the same committee was looking after wrestling as former president Brij Bhushan was suspended.
