Chaos erupted near Chawa village on the Gurdaspur-Mukerian main road when an unruly trolley driver ran over several hawkers late at night. After which two entered the shop. Both the shops were badly damaged in the incident. Three seriously injured died during treatment at the hospital. Along with this, around half a dozen people are undergoing treatment in the civil hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place late at night. There were many vegetable stalls on the roadside. The unruly trolley driver first caught them and then rammed into two roadside shops. Those whose condition is critical have been referred to Amritsar. The deceased have been identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Nangal, and Kiran Das, a migrant worker. According to people, the said trolley driver was intoxicated. People have taken the said accused into custody and handed him over to the police.
SP Navjot Singh, who reached the spot, has confirmed the death of 3 people. He said that the treatment of the injured is going on. At present, after taking possession of the trolley, a case has been registered against the truck driver and further action has been started.
