The Minister for Local Government said that the Local Government Department has set a target of planting about 2.25 lakh native plants in all urban local units of the state to increase greenery in the urban areas of Punjab. He also urged the residents of the state to actively participate in the strategy prepared by the local government department to plant greenery and trees in the city.
He said that the maintenance of saplings after planting is very important, therefore an online record of the number and progress of saplings planted across the state will be kept through the “Hara-Punjab, Rangla-Punjab” mobile app.
Reiterating its commitment to a more sustainable, climate-friendly urbanization and pro-growth approach to cities. Balkar Singh said that this mobile application will facilitate monitoring of actual status and progress of planted plants and encourage citizens to actively participate in this initiative.
He said that this campaign will be carried out with the coordination of different wings of the department. The department has prepared necessary guidelines for urban local units regarding greening activities. Secretary of the department Ajoy Sharma and PMIDC CEO Isha Kalia and other officials were also present on this occasion.
