Rail Roko in Punjab: Farmers of Punjab have again started the train stop movement. Due to non-receipt of compensation for the land acquired by the farmers for the highway coming under the Bharat Mala project and non-receipt of sugarcane dues, the farmers have once again blocked the Amritsar-Pathankot road.

The Kisan-Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab had ended the train stop movement in Batala and Gurdaspur 3 months ago on the assurance given by the government, but when the demands were not accepted, the train stopped indefinitely at Batala in Gurdaspur on the Amritsar-Pathankot railway line. A stop motion is introduced.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, who is leading the movement, said that the railway track has been jammed in Batala and Gurdaspur for the last three months due to the demands of the farmers. In the three national highways that are going to be built, the farmers’ land that is being acquired, the compensation is not being given equally to the farmers.

After the farmers sat on dharna, administrative officials also came to talk but the meeting remained inconclusive. After which the farmers took off their clothes and started protesting against the government by being half naked. The farmers said that until these demands are resolved, the railway track will be blocked.

Farmers are protesting for these demands

The farmers did not get equal value for the lands acquired in the Bharat Mala project.

Neither compensation nor government jobs have been given to the families of the martyred farmers during the farmers movement.

The payment of sugarcane which was supposed to be given in 15 days, was not given to the farmers even after the lapse of 40 days.

The government rate of sugarcane was fixed at Rs 380 per quintal, of which Rs 330 is to be paid by the sugarcane mills and the remaining Rs 50 is to be paid by the government, which has not been met till date. The farmers have demanded that Rs 380 should be given to the farmers in one installment.
