Famous Urdu poet Munawar Rana has bid farewell to this world. He died of a heart attack at Lucknow's PGI Hospital late at night. He was 71 years old. It is being told that Rana was suffering from a terrible illness for the past several months and was under treatment at the PGI hospital. He was suffering from kidney and heart related ailments.
Munawar Rana was a famous Urdu poet and wrote many ghazals. His frankness and fearless rhetoric was also reflected in his poems. In 2014, he rejected the Sahitya Akademi award for Urdu literature saying that intolerance was growing in the country. He vowed that he would never accept a government award.
He breathed his last at Lucknow's PGI Hospital late on Sunday night. According to reports, he died due to a heart attack. He was suffering from kidney and heart related ailments.
Poet Munawar Rana was also active in the political events of Uttar Pradesh. His daughter Sumaiya is a member of Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP). Rana was often surrounded by controversies regarding his statements.
