Chandigarh: Mother buries 3-day-old infant alive | Punjab

Chandigarh, February 7: In a shocking and bizarre incident, a mother buried newborn three-day-old infant alive by digging a pit in ground in the forest area in Nayagaon.

As soon as police officials received the information and found newborn girl was barely breathing, they rescued baby girl and rushed to a hospital where she succumbed at PGIMER after fighting for life for two days.

As per the police investigation, accused women have been identified as 26-year-old Anita Rani, native resident of Uttar Pradesh and said to be mentally unstable conditions.

Anita Rani and her husband Raj Kumar have a small nuclear family with two sons aged 14 and 5. Raj Kumar work as a labourer and the family lived in a hutment in Nayagaon.

According to the statement by police official, the accused had given birth to newborn on Friday. After two days, as soon as father Raj Kumar returned home after work, he couldn’t find his daughter. Suspicious of his wife’s involvement, he immediately informed the police.

After the police investigation, accused woman confessed to burying her daughter in the forest area.

Police reached the spot as soon as possible and rescued the infant, who was miraculously alive. She was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, where doctors referred her to PGIMER due to her critical condition. But she couldn’t survive and was declared dead on Monday.

As per the statement by husband Raj Kumar, Anita Rani has been said to be mentally unstable and is undergoing treatment of mental disturbance and depression.

According to the information from sources, accused mother is said to be the victim of depression since 2014.

Meanwhile, police booked Anita Rani for murder and registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code at the Nayagaon police station.
