Capt Amarinder Singh demands Compensation: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has demanded timely compensation for farmers whose wheat crop has been damaged due to recent rains.

He said the government should also consider giving interim relief to farmers till the actual compensation is received after the special girdavari, which is likely to take some time.

He said that the compensation of Rs 15,000 announced by the government is too low as the loss of farmers is huge and demanded that the compensation should be at least Rs 30,000 per acre.

The former Chief Minister said that the unseasonal rain has caused heavy damage to the standing wheat crop across the state. He said that most of the farmers have been badly affected. He said that this will also affect the production and ultimately the income of the farmers who are already facing severe economic crisis.

Captain Amarinder Singh said that while the government is claiming to have ordered a special Girdavari, reports on the ground say that no official has yet reached the farmers to take stock of the loss.

“This means it will take more time and till then some interim relief should be provided to the farmers so that they can plant the next crop and take care of daily activities”, he said, urging the government to provide relief measures. .
