Chandigarh: Haryana’s participation in Punjab University (PU) has not been canceled by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit and Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab met for the second time regarding the funds of Punjab University. Haryana had offered in the previous meeting that they are ready to share if their colleges are recognized in Punjab University, but in the second meeting, CM Mann said that through this Haryana wants to encroach on our rights, we will do whatever it takes. Haryana will not participate in Panjab University in Surat. He said that Punjab has enough funds and is capable of running Punjab University.
Haryana lured more money
Chief Minister Mann said that when I did not tell the Chief Minister of Haryana about the share in PU during the meeting, he lured me for more money, so he said that tomorrow you will bring the value of Punjab as well. Maan said that Punjab University is connected with our feelings, we cannot tolerate anyone’s participation in it. He said that when I asked the Chief Minister of Haryana that you had left the partnership of Punjab University, he said that we had made a mistake, we want to correct it, our children want to study in Punjab University. Mann also made a big revelation about the financial condition of the Haryana government’s universities.
Poor condition of the University of Haryana
Chief Minister Mann said that on the one hand, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is telling us to take money to give share in Punjab University, while his Higher Education Minister issued a letter last month and told the universities to bear their own expenses with us. There is no money. He said that actually Haryana wants to enter Punjab University indirectly, which cannot be approved. Not only these, CM Mann also raised big questions on the Akali Dal through a letter written by the then Badal government regarding Punjab University in 2008.
The Badal government had approved making PU a central university
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann surrounded the Akali Dal through the document and said that when discussions were going on to make Punjab University a central university in 2008, the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had written a letter to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying that We have no objection if Panjab University is made a Central University. While now they are warning us that they want to transfer Punjab University to Haryana. CM Mann said that we opposed the appointment of central members in the Senate of Punjab University and also passed a resolution in the Vidhan Sabha against making Punjab University a central university and sent to Home Minister Amit Shah that the state government will bear the expenses of Punjab University. should not be made a central university.
Akali Dal’s answer
Akali Dal spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema replied to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and said that he has told an incomplete story. In 2008, the professors of Punjab University wanted that if Punjab University becomes a central university, then we will also get funds and our retirement age will also be 65 years. Cheema said that there was a big movement in the university for this. During that time, the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had imposed 4 conditions, the first condition was that the name of the university would remain Punjab University. The second condition was that the colleges will remain as attached to Punjab University. The third condition was that no changes would be made in the Senate and the Syndicate. The fourth condition was that the then announced Central University and the World University would be separated from it. Akali Dal spokesperson Daljit Cheema said that these conditions were strict, so the Center did not approve it immediately.
Share of Funds in Panjab University
According to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, when Haryana and Himachal had shares in Punjab University, till 1970, Haryana and Himachal along with Punjab shared 20 percent of the funds, while the central government contributed 40 percent, but when Haryana and Himachal took back the share, then Punjab started getting 40 percent share and the central government used to share 60 percent.
