In the Interim Budget-2024, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a big announcement to link health workers to Ayushman Yojana. Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, all Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers will also be covered in healthcare coverage.

These three categories of employees will be provided with free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually. If we talk about Punjab, there are 21,470 Asha workers, 21,828 Anganwadis and about 30 thousand assistants under the Health Department. About 74 thousand workers will get direct benefit of Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Cervical cancer vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 has been announced in the budget. Let us tell you that Punjab is the first state in the country where HPV vaccination was started with the help of the World Health Organization for the eradication of cervical cancer. 13 out of every 1 lakh women in the state are affected. Cervical cancer is becoming a serious disease these days.

2.17 lakh farmers of Punjab are connected with e-name portal

The Interim Budget talked about increasing farmers' profits through direct purchase of their crops by linking them to the Electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) portal. The budget said that 1,361 mandis have been connected under e-name across the country. With this, services are being provided to 1.8 crore farmers with the purchase of 3 lakh crore rupees.

If we talk about Punjab, 2 lakh 17 thousand 426 farmers are availing the facility of e-name portal. It has 8,703 commission agents and 2,423 licensed traders associated with it. A total of 28.10 lakh tonnes of Punjab farmers' produce is bought and sold through the e-trade portal. It mainly includes the production of Potato, Basmati Rice, Maize, Cassava, Moong, Cotton, Green Pea, Capsicum, Watermelon and Mustard.
