Amethi. The health department is running a large-scale campaign regarding filariasis infection. The target has been set to feed maximum number of people. People with symptoms of the disease will be specially given 3 medicines. People around such infected people will also be given medicine so that filariasis can be prevented. The health team along with the nodal officers will go door-to-door to provide medicines to the people. So far 59 patients have been found suffering from filariasis in the district, who are being treated.
A special campaign will be launched in the district from February 10 to 27 for the purpose of prevention of filarial disease. In this campaign, 3500 health workers will go door to door and feed medicines to more than 21 lakh people. The medicine will be given to everyone except children below 2 years, pregnant women and seriously ill persons. For this, training is also being given to health workers at the block level.
The senior consultant of the Health Department said that the symptoms of filarial disease include swelling in the eyes, swelling in the legs as well as temporary swelling in the testicles. The disease can be detected only through blood test. Nodal officer of the district, Dr. AK Ajiji told that this disease spreads due to mosquito bites. To prevent mosquitoes, one should use mosquito net and wear full sleeve clothes while sleeping along with cleanliness around the house.
