Bureau Report: Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh has taken strict notice in the case of marriage of 2 girls in the Guru Ghar of Bathinda. Jathedar Sahib has banned Granthi Singh and Ragi Jatha from getting married. Apart from this, all the activities of the Gurdwara Kalgidhar Sahib where the marriage took place have also been stopped. Jathedar Raghbir Singh said that this is not only against etiquette but also unnatural. He has also asked to form a committee regarding the matter.

The names of the employees of Gurdwara Sahib who have been taken into account are Chief Granthi Hardev Singh, Granthi Ajaib Singh, Ragi Sikandar Singh, Tabla player Satnam Singh. Singh Sahib ji said that the marriage of two girls is not only contrary to Sikh ethics but also unnatural. He has also ordered Gurdwara Management Committees, Granthis, Ragis and Preachers all over the world to be alert keeping in mind this opposite trend. He said that Sikhs all over the world should do all their work according to Sikh ethics. Singh Sahib ji has also asked to form a religious sub-committee about the whole incident of two girls having fun with each other on 18 September 2023 in Bathinda and to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

On September 20, when this matter came to light, the Sikh organizations reached the Gurdwara Sahib and raised their hands and asked for forgiveness from the Granthi and Ragi Singhs who conducted the marriage. He had admitted that we knew that both the people getting married were girls, but he had claimed that it was legally approved by him. After which one of the scribes consulted with the other scribes and then the ceremony of Anand Karja took place. Both the girls who got married were not related to Sikh religion.

Indian law does not recognize the marriage of 2 girls

Same-sex marriage has not been recognized in India so far. 2 boys or 2 girls cannot marry each other. Section 377 of the IPC, which criminalized homosexuality, was recently struck down by the Supreme Court in 2018. Which was a big victory for gay rights in the country. However, even now same-sex marriage has not been legally approved. However, in 2017, the Delhi High Court had said that same-sex couples have the right to live in a relationship. But it cannot be brought under the ambit of law at present.
