Punjab Vigilance Bureau: Vigilance Bureau Punjab on Friday accused the village of misappropriating a total amount of Rs. 45,000 through collusion out of a total grant of Rs. 13,50,000 received by Gram Panchayat Village Mehmedwal, District Kapurthala for the poor and homeless under the Government of India’s Indira Awas Yojana in 2012. Gaure’s accused Charan Kaur has been arrested. She was absconding for the last 4 years.

It should be said that out of the total 132 accused involved in this case registered six years ago, 117 accused have been arrested so far and the search for the rest of the accused is on.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the total grant of 13,50,000 rupees received by Gram Panchayat village Mehmedwal in the year 2012 under the Indira Awas Yojana of the Government of India for the poor and homeless of the village Mehmedwal under block relaxation, ADC Development-cum-Chief Executive Officer Zilla Parishad Kapurthala Shatish Chandra Vashist in connivance with Asa Singh Sarpanch Village Mehmedwal and Kulwant Singh Panchayat Secretary had scuttled the grant by cutting various checks in the name of ineligible beneficiaries.

He said that later on the recommendation of Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala, a five-member committee of various officials conducted a physical verification, then illegal payment of Rs. 1,80,00,000 was made to 411 Aayog beneficiaries of 31 villages in Kapurthala district during the year 2011-12. found

In this regard, Vigilance Bureau filed case No. 01 dated 03-02-17 against 132 accused under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the IPC and Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. 13(2) was registered in Vigilance Bureau police station Jalandhar range. In this case, the accused Charan Kaur, resident of village Gaure, district Kapurthala, was nominated on 04-02-2019 after investigation, who has been arrested today.

The speaker said that the Sarpanch of village Gaure, Sukhwinder Singh, received a grant of Rs. 45,000 through various checks on 14-03-2012 for the construction of undamaged houses under this Indira Awas Yojana by the said accused Charan Kaur, being an ineligible beneficiary. And had usurped it with the connivance of Panchayat Secretary Kulwant Singh.

It is worth mentioning that out of the total 132 accused in the above case, 117 accused have been arrested so far and the Vigilance Bureau is putting pressure on their whereabouts to arrest the rest of the accused who will be arrested soon.
