The Patna High Court was told by the state government that ADG Kamal Kishore Singh would act as the co-ordinator between the high court and the state government to remove the pathetic condition of the state’s police stations and the lack of basic facilities there. This information was given on Thursday to a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh and Justice Parthasarathy on behalf of the government during the ongoing hearing regarding the pathetic condition of the state’s police stations and lack of basic facilities.

On Wednesday, the bench asked the state government to suggest the name of a senior IPS officer to the court on Thursday, who could act as a co-ordinator between the state government and the High Court. It may be noted that a division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh gave this instruction while hearing the request to hear the writ petition filed by Justice Rajiv Ranjan Prasad regarding the matter as a public interest litigation.

A single bench of Justice Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, while hearing the writ petition filed in this matter, found that this matter is of public interest and it should be heard before the bench. He sent the matter to the Chief Justice saying that it is a matter of public interest and it should be heard as a public interest litigation.

After this the matter was converted into a Public Interest Litigation and the hearing began on it. During the hearing, the court also admitted that 471 police stations in the state do not have their own buildings. Their work is done from a rented building. Even before this, the matter of the pathetic condition of the police station and basic facilities was raised in the court.

The state government had promised to improve them, but did not show concrete results. During the hearing, amicus curiae advocate Soni Srivastava told the court that the condition of the police stations which are running in government buildings is also not good. They also lack basic facilities. The matter will be heard again after a week.
