This scheme of the Punjab government will start in the month of January 2024 but its formal inauguration will take place in the month of November.
About 1.42 crore beneficiaries of the state will be able to get flour at home through this scheme. The government will distribute 72500 metric tons of ration every month under this scheme. According to the draft of the scheme National Food security (Security) Under the act, wheat has been distributed for the period from October to December and its distribution among the beneficiaries has also started. Beneficiaries will get home delivery in January next year. The government has also identified three dozen flour mills for grinding wheat.
Flour will be delivered every month
Flour millers will pick up the wheat from the warehouses and deliver it to the flour ration depot after milling. Flour mills will pack flour in 5 and 10 kg packs. About 3500 to this plan Ration depots (Ration depots) will be implemented through The work of delivering flour to every house has been allotted to four companies through tender. Earlier under this scheme home delivery was decided after every three months but now home delivery will be done every month. The entire scheme will cost around Rs 670 crore.
This scheme was to start from October 2022
The Punjab government announced the scheme in May 2022 and decided to start it in October of the same year, but the ration depot holders approached the High Court opposing the government’s scheme. The government has solved the issue of depot holders, but now as soon as the news of the new implementation of this scheme came, the Punjab BJP and Congress have started protesting.
Criticism of Punjab government’s decision by opponents
BJP’s Punjab President Sunil Jakhar has alleged that the Chief Minister is trying to gain false kudos by changing the name of the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Congress leader Pratap Bajwa, while criticizing the format of the scheme, has said that the beneficiaries are likely to get spoiled flour, so home delivery of wheat should be done instead of flour.
