On Monday, farmer Pritam Singh was killed during a police lathicharge during a stampede. Leaders of 32 farmers’ organizations belonging to the United Farmers’ Front met the family of the deceased farmer. Pritam Singh, a farmer from Mandel Kalan village in Sangrur, was run over by a tractor while going to join the Chandigarh Morche, in which he was seriously injured. In an injured condition, he was admitted to the government hospital in Patiala where he died.
After the death of Preet Singh, the farmers’ organization has now staged a permanent sit-in in Sangrur and put 4 demands before the government. In the first demand, it has been said that the family of the farmer Pritam Singh, who died, should get compensation and one member of the family should be given a job. The second demand of the farmers is that strict action should be taken against the police officials who have charged with sticks during the clash with the farmers. Apart from this, Sangrur Police has demanded the withdrawal of the FIR filed against 53 people, including 18 farmers and 35 unidentified people. The fourth demand of the farmers is that the farmers who were arrested before joining the protest should be released. During the gathering of 4 thousand farmers, it has also been decided that the SKM meeting to be held in Chandigarh on September 2 will discuss why such a situation has arisen.
