Xiaomi Preparing to Start Manufacturing of Electric car Modena Claims 1000 km Range

Chinese electronics company Xiaomi is preparing to start manufacturing its first electric car. It has been codenamed Xiaomi Modena or MS11. The company said that it will start manufacturing the electric car in less than a year. Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, recently told that the preparations for the company’s first electric vehicle are going on fast.

He had said that the test of this electric car has been successful in winter and it can be launched in the first half of next year. If this car is launched next year then Xiaomi Will become the first global tech company to bring an electric car. Japan’s electronics company Sony and iPhone maker Apple also have plans to launch electric cars. This Xiaomi car will compete with Tesla’s Model S to be launched in China. Till last year, Xiaomi had invested three billion yuan in its automotive division. The company has set up its manufacturing plant in Beijing, the capital of China. It can produce about three lakh cars annually.

The design of this electric car from Xiaomi is somewhat similar to the Seal electric sedan of Chinese automobile company BYD, which was displayed at this year’s Auto Expo. This four-door electric sedan sports an aerodynamic design. The LED lights in its front give it a distinct look. It has a large windshield and large side glass area. It gets a panoramic sunroof that extends till the rear. There is a Xiaomi logo in its center. The design of its rear lights is similar to that of Aston Martin.

It has an electric motor developed by the company. Its battery will be taken from BYD and CATL. The company claims that it can give a range of up to 1,000 kilometers in a single charge. It is likely to have an 800 V system which will be able to generate power up to 260 kW. Sales of electric vehicles have increased rapidly in the last few years.
