Jhansi. “I don’t get toys, I don’t yearn for it / But there is definitely a yearning in my mind / I spend my childhood laughing swans / To visit Mussoorie by motor vehicles / I yearn for this / Climbing on the top of the iceberg / I yearn Let us hoist the tricolor of India…” These lines were written in his diary about 25 years ago in 1997 by a child from a village in Bihar. And now the truth is that the person who wrote these lines has become an IAS after taking officer training in Mussoorie, has hoisted the tricolor on Mount Everest and has many published books to his name.
IAS Ravindra Kumar is currently the District Magistrate of Jhansi. Apart from being an IAS, you have already known what are the qualities in him. He is a mountaineer as well as a black belt in martial arts. Apart from this, he is also a sensitive poet. On the occasion of World Poetry Day, Ravindra Kumar shared some stories of his journey to become a poet in a special conversation with News18 Local.
Q. How did you get attached to poems?
A. I did my early education in a school in Bihar. Being a student of Hindi medium, I was connected with poems from the very beginning. When he came to the sixth grade, he started participating in the competitions of poetry writing or poetry recitation held in the school. The encouragement I got from there and people started liking my poems, then the phase of writing poems continued.
Q. Did the poems come from any particular event or any particular situation in your life?
A. No no it has nothing to do with breaking or joining. When I was young, as a student and when I grew up as a citizen, I found poetry to be the best medium to express my views on what was happening around me. When I was in 10th standard, I had written a poem which meant that on one hand we are trying to find new worlds on Moon and Mars, but we do not want to talk about the shortcomings and problems in our own world. . I kept writing on many such issues.
Q. Who is your favorite poet?
A. I cannot call any one poet a favourite. It depends on what kind of poetry I want to read. If I want to read poetry on bravery or patriotism, I Ramdhari Singh Dinkar would like to If I want to read fictional poems, I agnostic I will read Apart from this, there are many poets whom I read.
Q. Poems with a job, how does the time pass?
A. Writing poetry is more than a hobby or a hobby for me. This is the most powerful medium for me to express my thoughts. As an officer, we cannot speak many things. But, they can be conveyed to the people through poems. Poems work to improve the society. In this era of social media, you can easily send your poems to the world.
Q. What would you like to say to the youth on World Poetry Day?
A. I would like to tell all the youth that keep writing your thoughts on paper through words. Share them with the world. Read a lot of books and keep trying to get your collection of poems published. Keep writing and keep writing well.
