In the olden times, the clothes of the king and queen were washed in indigenous ways and they used to be clean and shiny too.

Until the last decade of the 19th century, there was neither surf nor technology like laundry soap and dry cleaning in India. This was also the time when Indians did not have much clothes like today. He used to have only a few selected clothes. He used to run his work by cleaning them. Yes, the matter of kings and kingdoms is different. They used to have one to one expensive clothes, but then how the clothes were cleaned in India. Have you ever noticed that when there was no soap and surf, then how the clothes would have been washed. How the expensive clothes of the kings and queens would have remained clean and shining. How even an ordinary person would have been washing his clothes.

Modern soap making in India was first introduced before 130 years under the British rule. Lieber Brothers England worked for the first time in India to launch modern soap in the market. Earlier, it used to import soaps from Britain to India and market them. When people started using soap in India, then for the first time its factory was set up here.

This factory used to make both types of soaps for bathing and cleaning clothes. The North West Soap Company was the first company to set up the country’s first soap factory in Meerut in 1897. This business flourished a lot. After that Jamsetji Tata jumped into this business as the first Indian company.

But the question is when soap was not used in India. The art of making soap using soda and oil was not known, so how the clothes were washed and made flint.

Reetha was widely used
India has always been rich in vegetation and minerals. There is a tree here which is called Reetha. At that time reetha was used a lot to clean clothes. Reetha trees or Reetha gardens were planted in the palaces of the kings. Reetha is still the best organic product to disinfect and clean expensive silk clothes.

In ancient India, reetha was used as a super soap. Foam was produced from its peels, due to which the clothes were cleaned, they also became clean and shine also used to come on them. Reetha also used to work as a disinfectant.

Now reetha is widely used to wash hair. Shampoos are also made from reetha. It is still very popular. Even in olden times, queens used to wash their long hair with this. It was also called soap berry or wash nut.

clothes were boiled in hot water
At that time the clothes were cleaned in two ways. Common people used to put their clothes in hot water and boil it. Then after taking it out in it, after cooling it, used to beat it on the stones, due to which its dirt used to come out. This work was done on a large scale using big pots and furnaces. Now in India, where there are big Dhobi Ghats, even today the clothes are cleaned by these indigenous methods. It does not use soap or surf.

Used to wash expensive clothes with reetha’s foam
Reetha was used for expensive and soft clothes. Reetha fruits are put in water and it is heated. By doing this, foam is generated in the water. Putting it on a cloth and rubbing it on a stone or wood with a brush or hand, the clothes were not only cleaned but also disinfected. They do not cause any kind of reaction on the body.

At the famous Dhobighats of the country, even now the washermen neither use soap nor surf.

A special powder of white color also used to work
There was another way to clean it, which was also very popular. In rural areas, white colored powder is visible on the vacant land, on the banks of river-ponds or in the fields, which is also called ‘Reh’. It is found in abundance on the land of India. It doesn’t have any value. Clothes are soaked by mixing this powder in water. After this, the clothes were cleaned by rubbing them with wooden thapi or roots made from the roots of trees.

Iron is a valuable mineral. It contains sodium sulphate, magnesium sulphate and calcium sulphate, sodium hypochlorite is also found in it, which disinfects the clothes.

In ancient China, new silk clothes were soaked in tubs and beaten in this way.

Clothes were also cleaned with soda from rivers and seas.
When soda was detected in the water of rivers and seas, it was widely used in washing clothes.

Indians used to bathe by rubbing with mud and ash
