Weightlifter Paramveer was selected in the Indian team

Chandigarh: City weightlifter Paramveer has been selected in the Indian team. He will represent the country in the Commonwealth and Asian Championships. He n. I. S. Secured his place in the Indian team with a record performance in the National Trial in Patiala. This is the first time when a weightlifter from Chandigarh will be a part of the national team at the international level.

During the trial, Paramveer broke his own record by lifting 177 kg in clean and jerk. He had registered his name in the record book by lifting 176 kg in the National and Khelo India Games. Chandigarh Director Sports Saurabh Arora has been encouraging Paramveer. The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships will be held at Gautam Buddha University in Noida from July 11 to 17 and the Asian Championships will be held at the venue from July 28 to August 5.

A few months ago, Paramveer won 2 golds in the junior and sub-junior categories in the National Weightlifting Championship and also set 4 new records. On the same lines, now once again he has secured his place in the Indian team by breaking his own record.

Karanveer Singh Buttar, the coach of Paramveer, a student of Chitkara School, said that at the age of 10, Paramveer started weightlifting. He was taking training in Sector-42. Both his father and brother are weightlifters. Taking inspiration from them, he also started weightlifting. Played for the first time in Bhubaneswar National in 2022 and won the gold medal. After winning a bronze medal in the Panchkula Games, they won two gold medals together in the Tamil Nadu National. After this, Chandigarh also won gold medal in the Khelo India Games held in Madhya Pradesh.

Paramveer lifted a total weight of 319 kg in the National Trial. He set a new record by lifting 142 kg in snatch and 177 kg in jerk. He also lifted 319 kg in the Tamil Nadu National and won gold medals in both junior and sub-junior categories.
