We will not tolerate illegal travel agents in Punjab: CM Hon

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann flagged off 16 hi-tech vehicles and 56 motorcycles in Chandigarh to strengthen the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) formed to prevent human trafficking in the state. He said that people are cheated and human trafficking is carried out on a large scale by illegal travel agents in the state.

Strict action will be taken against such illegal travel agents. He announced that the Immigration Act would be amended to crack down on illegal travel agents.

Referring to the issue of about 700 students stuck in Canada, the Chief Minister said that these students have been cheated by travel agents by sending them on fake documents. He said that the state government is constantly in touch with the Canadian Embassy to get strict punishments for such criminals in Punjab.

The Chief Minister said about the hi-tech vehicles launched today that these vehicles will help in effectively stopping human trafficking of women and children in the state. These vehicles are equipped with four cameras – two outdoor and two indoor and Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS) under Advanced Mobile Network Video Recording System (MNVRS).

The CM said that the Punjab government has decided to form a ‘Road Safety Force’ to streamline traffic on the roads and prevent road accidents. With this force, the burden on the police personnel posted in the police stations will also decrease. DGP Gaurav Yadav and other officials were also present on this occasion.
