Water resources department prepared to deal with any untoward incident due to heavy rain: Meet Hare

The water resources department has made full preparations to deal with any untoward situation due to the increased water level in the reservoirs due to the continuous rain in the hilly places and Punjab. The situation is fully under control and there is no need for people to panic.
This was said by Water Resources Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair today while taking a survey of the water level in the Ghaggar river at Khanuri-Moonak area to find out the situation on the ground level. Water Resources Minister Deputy Commissioner Jitinder Jorwal and SDM. Suba Singh along with officials of the department visited Moonak-Tohana Bridge and Makrod Sahib.
Meet Hare said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, complete preparations have been made by the Water Resources Department. Where all the officers/employees of the department are posted in the field, they themselves are taking stock of the situation at the ground level. A flood control room has already been set up at the headquarters level.
Apart from this, flood control rooms have also been set up in every district. All the field officers are being informed immediately about the water level and release of water so that they can alert the concerned department and district administration.
The Water Resources Minister said that the department has already done flood prevention work before the monsoon season and the department is fully prepared for the upcoming situation. He said that works were done in Sangrur district at a cost of around five and a half crore rupees. He further said that as far as dams are concerned, satisfactory buffer is available up to the maximum level of dams. The district civil and police administration is promptly visiting the ground level and taking stock of the entire situation. The field staff of the department like Axion, SDO and JEs have already been told and they are keeping an eye on the sensitive places. The field staff is in full coordination with the district administration.
Meet Hare also appealed to the people to contact the Deputy Commissioner office of their respective districts so that they can be evacuated in case of any emergency. The staff of the department has been asked to monitor the fields along with night vigil. Immediate measures like keeping empty cement bags ready to deal with any situation have already been instructed.
