Water filled in 10 villages of Dinanagar

Dhusi Dam near Jagatpur Tanda village of Dinanagar in Gurdaspur, Himachal Pradesh has breached due to rising water level in River Beas after 1.40 lakh cusecs of water was released from Pong Dam on Tuesday due to heavy rains. Due to which the nearby low-lying areas have come under the flood, while the villages of Jagatpura Tanda, Bhaini Paswal, Chechian Chhdian, Pakhowal, Dauwal, Khaira, Dalerpur, Padana, Chhina Bet, Nadala villages have come under the flood.

The power house of the old school and the interior of the police station are also flooded. Apart from NDRF teams, the help of Army and BSF is also being sought. Gurdaspur Mukerian Road has been closed for traffic. The district administration has asked the residents of these villages to immediately move to safer or higher places.

DC Dr. Himanshu Agarwal reached the spot on Tuesday evening and took stock. He said that people are being evacuated safely from the flood affected areas. The release of water from the Pong Dam has been reduced, which will lower the water level in the Beas River. A relief camp has been set up at Purana Shala School and all teams including medical, veterinary departments are engaged in rescue operations.
