Vigilance caught Tehsil Clerk red-handed while taking bribe

Punjab Vigilance Bureau (Vigilance Bureau) has caught Harjit Singh, a clerk posted at Tehsil Office, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 during the anti-corruption drive in the state.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that this case has been registered on the complaint of Gursevak Singh, a resident of village Jaga Ram Tirth, district Bathinda. Giving details, he further said that the complainant has approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the above clerk has demanded Rs 10,000 in exchange for issuing his marriage certificate. He further alleged that the deal was done for Rs 6,000 at his behest and the accused had already taken Rs 1,500 as the first installment of bribe and was demanding the remaining amount.

Giving details, he further said that the complainant has approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the above clerk has demanded Rs 10,000 in exchange for issuing his marriage certificate. He further alleged that the deal was done for Rs 6,000 at his behest and the accused had already taken Rs 1,500 as the first installment of bribe and was demanding the remaining amount.

The spokesman further said that the vigilance unit of Bathinda range has laid a trap after preliminary investigation of the allegations made in the complaint and caught the accused red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 as second installment in the presence of two officials. In this regard, a case of corruption has been registered against the above accused at Vigilance Police Station Bathinda. He said that further investigation of this matter is going on.
