Vigilance arrested 288 accused in corruption cases during the year 2023

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, continuing its efforts to crack down on corruption in the state, registered a total of 251 trap cases, criminal cases and 288 government officials/employees and private individuals in 2023 till 26 December. has been arrested

Among the accused arrested in the said cases are 66 police personnel and 44 revenue officers/employees. Apart from this, cases were registered against 7 political leaders and 70 government officials/employees in these cases. Along with this, an amount of Rs. 59,57,000 was recovered in 133 different trap cases during this year.

Giving this information, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the Bureau has adopted a multi-pronged approach to crack down on bribe takers and spread awareness among the general public. He said that during this year, all the officers/employees of the Vigilance Bureau have performed their duties with tireless hard work, honesty and diligence in every field for the elimination of corruption and corrupt activities among the government employees and others in the state led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The firm commitment of the government stood guard and filed cases against the accused.

Giving more information about the performance of the Vigilance Bureau, he said that during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, the Bureau has registered 103 criminal cases and 15 cases of wealth creation in excess of income. During this period, various special courts decided 33 cases filed by the Vigilance Bureau, resulting in the conviction and sentence of 43 employees. Vigilance has filed challans of 181 cases in various courts during this period. Apart from this, 82 vigilance probes were also registered for thorough investigation of corruption related cases.

Talking about the achievements of the Chief Minister's anti-corruption action line launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on 23-03-2022, the spokesperson said that the evidence of audio-video recordings has been submitted to the Bureau by 26-12-2023. Out of these, 5740 complaints were sent to the concerned departments for action and 630 complaints were sent to various vigilance ranges so that appropriate action could be taken after investigating them. Giving detailed information about various trap cases, the spokesperson told about some specific cases registered by different Vigilance Ranges that during the year 2023, Vigilance Bureau Range Bathinda sent to Baljit Singh Brar, DSP, Maur Mandi, District Bathinda.
