Vehicle tracking system launched during wheat procurement season

Wheat Procurement season in Punjab: Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ensure complete transparency in wheat procurement process, Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) has been implemented in the state during the ongoing wheat procurement season.

So far, 26,250 transport vehicles have been fitted with GPS devices that help track the movement of vehicles from markets to warehouses. VTS Over 95,421 online gate passes have been issued through and manual passes have been discontinued.

Sharing these details, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Lal Chand Kataruchak said today that this is the first time that VTS has been used for procurement of food grains in Punjab. has been implemented. This is helping the department to monitor the movement of trucks so that any possible attempt of wheat fraud can be stopped immediately.

Moreover it helps in optimum utilization of vehicles as it helps officials to monitor loading and unloading of trucks. The minister added that this system will help in eliminating fake procurement and will also be very beneficial in preventing recycling of paddy from other states in the upcoming paddy season.

Giving detailed information about the efforts being made by the department at all levels to curb corruption, the minister said that for the first time, four procurement agencies Markfed, Pangren, PSWC were appointed on the special instructions of the Chief Minister. And all the tainted employees of PNS are specifically prohibited from paying any duty for purchase of wheat. These are the officers against whom orders have been made or are pending for recovery of losses incurred in purchase/storage of wheat or paddy.

Commenting on the purchase of wheat in the markets, the minister said that the state has been witnessing the highest arrival for the past one week and in a very short period of about 10 days, more than 60 percent of the wheat has reached the markets. is Facing this challenge, the government ensured a smooth procurement process of wheat and prompt payment of the full amount of minimum support price directly into farmers’ accounts.

He revealed that an amount of over Rs 11,000 crore has been deposited in the accounts of around 3.54 lakh farmers till Saturday evening. Regarding the process of lifting from markets, the minister said that FCI. Over 4 lakh metric tonnes was lifted from the mandis in a single day yesterday after the government allowed wheat to be stored in open warehouses for a short period of time. So the lifting process will continue smoothly.

The minister further said that the state government is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and ensuring payment of minimum support price to every farmer without any deduction.
