Agartala. In Tripura, Congress MP from Assam Abdul Khaliq (Assam Congress MP Abdul Khaliq) has accused Congress and a group of Left leaders of the attack. He said, “They are BJP workers and they attacked us and pelted stones. 3-4 of our vehicles have been vandalised. The police did nothing in the matter. We realized that there is no rule of law in Tripura.”

It may be noted that a fact-finding team comprising leaders of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Congress reached here on Friday to take stock of the post-poll violence in Tripura. CPI MP Binay Viswam tweeted on Thursday that the team is likely to stay here till March 12, after which it will submit its report and raise the matter in the Parliament session beginning March 13.

Senior state CPI(M) leader Pavitra Kar said the delegation would be divided into three teams which would visit the affected districts of West Tripura, Sipahijala and Khowai. Kar claimed that there have been around 1,200 incidents of violence in the state since the results of the assembly elections were declared on March 2.

“The exact number of injuries and damages could not be ascertained as there have been countless incidents since the announcement of the election results. A process has been initiated to compile an authentic report on the post-poll violence.”

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) – Law and Order Jyotishman Das Chowdhary had said on Saturday that most of the post-poll violence was reported from Sipahijala and Khowai districts. He had said that some people were injured in these districts, who were taken to the nearest health centre. (with agency inputs)
